For those of you who read our email on tips & tricks for a smooth data conversion we have 3 bonus tips here! The original email is listed below the bonus tips for reference as well.
6. Ensure code mappings are clear and consistent among all involved.
Before putting data into your new system, be 100% sure the source codes are mapped correctly to destination codes. Mapping assumptions pose the biggest risk to a good data load, and outdated files are the most common cause.
7. Conversion is not always the best answer for system settings
Systems perform the same function using different methods, and the data to support those functions is not always map-able. This can lead to trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, when an alternate handling would take less time and fit better in the new system.
8. Don’t focus on the exceptions.
Many times a few exceptional records cause the group to fail. Consider manually entering those exceptions, so the majority can load clean.
